Slide 2: Example

We recently hosted a session for close to 200 teachers, students, parents, and historians on the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee. We held the session on Zoom which is free to users with the basic plan. The next few slides will describe the process. A similar approach could be used for a virtual VIA convening.

Slide 3: Notification

Each participant received an email with a link to click on to join the session. This would be the same for the VIA – each confirmed attendee would receive a link to join the session.

Slide 4: Speakers

During the session, whoever is speaking can be spotlighted. In this case, it was SNCC veteran and Eyes on the Prize filmmaker Judy Richardson. We can spotlight a sequence of speakers and/or anyone among the attendees who is sharing a story or comment.

Slide 5: Participants

Attendees can either show their faces or can choose to hide the video and just show their names. This sample screen is from a convening of the principal, some staff, and families from DCPS West Elementary School.

Slide 6

We could feature pages of the website.

Slide 7

Participants could be invited to share memories and other comments based on what they see in the photos.

Slide 8

Scholars who have researched the VIA could be invited to share some comments.

Slide 9

The opportunities are endless as we take on the challenge of convening in a new format. We welcome your questions, ideas, concerns, and suggestions.
